We would like to know how we can improve our service to you and how you perceive the Practice and our staff.
In 2011 the Practice formed a virtual Patient Participation Group (PPG). This moved to a face-to-face group in 2012. By having a Patient Participation Group we are given the tools to evaluate the Practice services and in which ways we can improve them.
Q What is a Patient Participation Group?
This is a group of volunteer patients who are involved in making sure the surgery provides the services its patients need. The surgery will contact the volunteers for their feedback and act upon suggestions made within the group . To form our PPG invites were placed on our website, Facebook page, in the surgery waiting rooms and on information slips placed with patient prescriptions. This is advertised throughout the year and has been since the group first formed. If a patient would like to join the Group but would find it hard to attend the Practice for a meeting we would be happy to receive these patient views by telephone or via email. This ensures that everyone who wishes to have their say could do so.
We aim to meet every couple of months and this is usually on the second Wednesday of that month. We are hoping to join with the PPG for the Three Spires Practice on occasions to see if we can work together on similar projects to benefit both Practices.
The main volunteer group roles are to:-
- Create and improve two-way communication between patients, the Practice and the community it serves.
- Bring a sense of partnership between Practice and patients.
- Provide an avenue for patients’ input in the way facilities and services are planned and executed, to add humanity to, and influence those services.
- Provide constructive two-way feedback on patient and community needs, concerns and interests.
- Support the Practice in good health promotions, preventative medicine and health literacy
- Collect patient opinions and experiences to help the practice to evaluate its services.
- Communicate to the practice community and/or the wider community information about the practice.
We look for young, old, working, non-working patients. Patients with long-term illness, healthy people and people from various ethnic backgrounds. We welcome applications from carers who are not registered at the Practice but care for one of our patients. If you would like to join and are happy for us to contact you and join us at regular meetings please complete the sign up form on the next page.
The overall aim of our PPG is to develop a positive and constructive relationship between patients, the Practice and the community it serves, ensuring the practice remains accountable and responsive to all its patients needs. We would also welcome specialist nurses/workers who work with our patients to join the group to represent these groups if they are unable to attend themselves ie District Nurses, Mental Health Workers, Learning Disability Liaison and Head Teachers to name just a few.

We are now growing in numbers!
We have raised enough money to have a blood pressure machine installed in the waiting room at Lander. This will hopefully encourage patients to check their blood pressure on a regular basis and will be helpful if you are unable to get an appointment. We have also purchased a dermatoscope, which will help the Practice GP’s examine skin lesions.
We produce a Newsletter for the Practice with lots of useful patient information and this is available quarterly. This is produced by Katie and Lesley who are always happy to receive suggestions for the newsletter content.
PPG Budget currently stands at £970.00 – monies raised from TV advertising media in waiting rooms at Lander – an initiative put in place when the PPG first formed.
If there is anything you would like the PPG to discuss please email: [email protected]
The National Association of Patient Participation
The national association for patient participation aims to promote the role and benefits of PPGs to patients, the public and health professionals, to create more understanding of the value of true patient participation also to promote the support available from N.A.P.P.
